The writer Greg Palast did great work on the theft of the 2000 Presidential election but no one is perfect on every issue. Palast claims the US went to war on Iraq to keep Iraqi oil off the market.  He is evidently not interested in the reality of Peak Oil, which shows a very narrow understanding of the situation. The idea that the US is spending a trillion dollars so that Exxon and the rest can make tens of billions is ridiculous.  Yes, Exxon, et al are making lots of money, but that is a secondary goal.  Control of the world’s remaining oil as we pass Peak Oil is the real reason for the War on Iraq.
